Open to Students entering KA Grades 6-9 in the fall

No classes July 4- July 8

 

REGISTRATION KICK-OFF INFORMATION

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis

Enrollment in some classes may be limited.

Listed to the right is an example of the types of classes offered during the Roosevelt/Kaleidoscope Summer School session. This list is NOT a final list of classes to be offered in 2011.

 

                               

                           

Payment will not be accepted until the

1st day of summer school

If you plan to register your child, please do not delay as classes will be cut if the minimum number of students is not met. 

·Phone registrations will NOT be taken.

· Registrations will also be accepted up through the first two days of summer school if there are still spots available. 

· Please register as soon as possible to help insure that the classes will run.                                

·The Roosevelt Boys & Girls Club will be offering free before and after school programming each day during summer school. 

· We will be offering a free school breakfast and lunch program for all summer school participants this year.

·Registration forms will be available in the Roosevelt\Kaleidoscope School Office after registration.

Digital Math (SmartHelp)  $5.00

For all math levels.  No matter what your math level, whether you are advanced, at grade level or behind; SMART Help & V-Math Live will individualize your lessons.  A certified teacher will guide students through online activities with web support.  Check out www.apangealearning.com or www.vmathlive.com  for more information.

Digital Reading & Writing (Teenbiz) $5.00

For all reading and writing levels.  Achieve 3000 provides web-based individualized learning solutions based on a student’s lexile level.  A certified teacher guides students through online activities.  No matter what your reading or writing level, the one-on-one support will help you progress past reading and writing proficiency and onto advancement.  Check out www.achieve3000.com for more information.

Introduction to Middle School Technologies $5.00

An exploration of technologies divided into weekly units.  The technologies to be covered include WEB 2.0 (advanced use of the internet), digital audio recording and mixing, video editing, and review basics (PowerPoint, spreadsheet, word processing, etc.).    

PhotoTech  $10.00

Come take digital photos, explore the effects of distance and angle, and learn about photo composition. You will also learn digital photo manipulation, from basic photo editing tasks, such as cropping and adjusting color and light, to advanced projects that require image filters and layering.  This class will include online activities as well as teacher led activities. 

WebTech $5.00

Create your own web pages using a great web design tool-Microsoft FrontPage.  In this class students will learn how to create a web page, add photos, animated graphics, sounds, tables and more.  Students may choose to make a site about themselves, their hobby, or create a page that will be useful to their school. 

MovieTech $5.00

Hands-on activities will allow participants to learn and practice the use of camera equipment, the principles of composition, the components of visual storytelling and the basics of editing and sound techniques.

Arts and Crafts $10.00                                                  

Students will be introduced to a variety of two and three-dimensional art, including painting, drawing, and sculpture.  Samples will be used to teach techniques.  Emphasis is on creativity and self-expression.   

 Fashion  and Design $10.00

Students will get to experience techniques that will assist them in the creation of outfits.  The class will teach the students basic construction skills, give an understanding of the principles and elements of design, and develop the skills it takes in making informed clothing choices.

Scrapbooking $10.00

Participants will create their own scrapbook utilizing different media.  Traditional scrapbooking supplies as well as digital photography will be used.

Cooking $15.00

Develop the skills you need to become a successful chef.  Explore various foods and nutritional value by making thoughtful choices to menu selections.  This hands-on cookery course will indulge your passion of the culinary arts.

Fitness Training $5.00

Students will have access to the Roosevelt Fitness Center.  Students will learn the fundamentals of weight training, cardio training, resistance training and stretching.  Students will learn a variety of methods and equipment in order to reach their peak performance. 

Gym & Outdoor Games $5.00

Gym and outdoor games such as soccer, softball, kickball, and more provide an excellent activity for coeducational play in which social skills, sportsmanship, cooperation, and team play can easily be developed. Whether you are trying out for your school team or just want to meet new friends, this course will meet your needs.  Learn and practice skills, participate in friendly competition, and put your skills into game action FUN!

Volleyball $5.00

Volleyball is an excellent activity for coeducational play in which social skills, sportsmanship, cooperation and team play can easily be developed.  Whether you are trying out for your school team or just want to meet new friends-this course will meet your needs.  Learn and practice skills; participate in friendly competition, and put your skills into game action FUN!

Dance $5.00

Participants will learn and practice multiple methods of dance.  This class will culminate in a performance in conjunction with the Theater and Backstage Crew classes.

Theater $10.00

This class will focus on performance skills. This program features high-participation, age-appropriate activities to deliver the benefits of drama education Each week, students will get the chance to create, practice and perform skits, plays and monologues.   At the end of summer school, participants will perform.

Backstage Crew $10.00

Participants will learn the ins and the outs of putting on plays and other performances.  Special attention will be paid to lights, sound and set construction.  The class will culminate in the support of performances by the Dance and Theater classes.

ELL Academic Skills  FREE                                     

Open to ELL students entering grade 7 or 8 in the fall who have an English language proficiency level of 1 or low level 2. This class will help students develop beginning literacy and academic skills in English.

ELL Study Skills for Success  FREE                                     

Open to ELL students entering 7th grade in the fall who have an English Language proficiency level of 3-5. This class will help students develop study skills for Comm. Arts, Science, Geography and Math.
