The Positive Place for Kids

Meet the Roosevelt Boys & Girls Club Staff

Paula Reigel - Health & Life Skills Coordinator

I have been a Roosevelt Boys and Girls Club staff member since 2008. I love working with the students, whether it is helping with homework or just listening to their everyday ups and downs. At the Club I run groups like Healthy Habits, Arts & Crafts Club, and SPARK Games. Although my job can be challenging at times there is nothing more rewarding than to know that I can make a difference in a child’s life. During the day, you will find me working at RMS/KA as a Paraprofessional supervising detention and study halls. I have worked for RMS/KA for 11 years. I feel my role at RMS/KA has given me the opportunity to work with many diverse students at our school which has given me the opportunity to get to know many students on a personal level. When I have spare time I enjoy time with family and friends, movies, lazy days at home or getting outdoors for hiking, boating, or skiing. Please do not hesitate to contact via e-mail/phone we would love to hear from you.

Michael Binkowski - Sports, Fitness, & Recreation Coordinator

I have been with the Roosevelt Boys & Girls Club since 2007. I supervise the KA Lab during Power Hour and I enjoy math and critical thinking. If you have a math question don't hesitate to ask. As the Sports, Fitness, & Recreation coordinator, most of my time at the Club is spent playing a variety of sports & games with kids and organizing leagues and tournaments. Some of the most popular games are flag football, basketball, dodgeball, and disc golf. I also like to hang out in the games room and accept challenges to a game of pool or ping pong. I was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin but I have lived in thirteen states besides Wisconsin. I moved to Appleton in 1997 and have lived here ever since. I attended James Madison Junior High School and graduated from Appleton East High School in 1993. I have an associate degree in criminal justice from Fox Valley Technical College. My biggest passions in life in no particular order are music, sports, and learning. Come hang out with me before school in the gym or afterschool in the library and gamesroom.

Sarah Newlun - Program Assistant

I joined the Roosevelt Boys & Girls Club in August of 2010 and enjoy the opportunity to interact with the kids in many different ways. During Power Hour I supervise the LMC computer lab. I'm always available to answer questions so just ask. I also enjoy spending time in the games room hosting tournaments and playing the Nintendo Wii. I especially enjoy a good bowling match. Outside of the Club I enjoy my crazy life as a wife, mother of 3, and full time student. I am studying to become an AODA Counselor at Fox Valley Tech. I strive for academic excellence and encourage all students to make education a priority. When I'm not studying or working I love watching my kids participate in activities such as basketball, cheerleading, softball, forensics, and chorus. And if I do manage some free time, I spend it playing the piano; that is my relaxation.

Mattie Young-Burns - Program Assistant

I am a junior at Lawrence University. I am currently majoring in International Relations and Spanish, although that might change soon. I moved to Appleton last year to come to Lawrence and am originally from Minneapolis, where I have lived all of my life.

This is now my second year working at the Roosevelt Boys and Girls Club and I love my job. At home, I work as a cook in a restaurant. Because of this, I love to cook and bake. My other passions in life are traveling as well as discovering new music and playing soccer.

Amber Stanek - Unit Director

I have been working with youth for more than 10 years and recently joined the Roosevelt Boys & Girls Club in August of 2010. Before school you will find me in the LMC helping students with homework and projects. I enjoy introducing kids to groups like SMART Girls, Career Launch, Keystone Club. Anything that encourages personal growth and/or the development of leadership skills is my forte. I also enjoy a variety of activities that encourage creativity and social interaction. Board games, arts & crafts, or just chatting are all great ways to enjoy the company of friends. When I'm not at work, I enjoy traveling. Seeing new places, experiencing various cultures, and meeting the most interesting people keep my life exciting and adventurous. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family. When I'm with the people who mean the most to me, it really doesn't matter what we do. Relationships are what matter most to me.
