LIGHTNING WRESTLERS STAND TALL ON PODIUM

     For the first time in school history the Lightning wrestling program brought home three (3) medals at the 2010 WIAA Division 1 Individual State Wrestling Tournament. At 189, senior, Tremayne Williams finished third.  At 215, senior Kolby Knuth placed 5^th and junior Sami Khatib at 171 finished 6^th.

     The tournament started Thursday night and what a night the Lightning wrestlers and coaching staff had. Tremayne, Kolby and Sami all won their first round matches, as well as their quarterfinal matches. They went 6-0 Thursday night and each wrestler now were in the semi-finals at their respective weight class. It was a busy night on the mats with all three wrestling at the same time. The coaching staff had their heads on a swivel coaching at the corners of the mats.

WILLIAMS, KNUTH AND KHATIB STATE BOUND

     They’ve been called “Murderers Row” and they back that up with some outstanding wrestling at the D1 WIAA Individual Sectional Tournament held at Green Bay Preble. The three upper weights for the Lightning at 171, 189, and 215 all will be competing at the Kohl Center starting Thursday afternoon.

     Senior Tremayne Williams at 189 took home the gold and improved his record to

29-2. He will be making a return trip to Madison after placing 4^th in 2009. He pinned Mark VandenAvond of GB-Preble/East in the finals in 1:27. Senior Kolby Knuth at 215 lost a 5-2 decision in the finals to Vaughn Grube of Rapids and was the runner-up. He improved his record to 33-3 and also earned his second trip to the Kohl Center as he qualified in 2009. Junior Sami Khatib improved his record to 35-7 at 171 and will...

LIGHTNING THIRD AT FVA TOURNEY

WILLIAMS AND KNUTH WIN FVA TITLES

     The team finished third at the FVA Conference Tournament and third overall behind 2009-10 FVA champion Kaukauna and runner-up Neenah. LIGHTNING JV’S CROWN 4 CHAMPS

     The JV team sent 16 wrestlers to the Bay Port JV Invite and the team wrestled well. The competition was good and our wrestlers were in plenty of competitive matches all day long. LIGHTNING TAME THE WILDCATS 51-19

     The Lightning wrestling team finished the FVA dual meet season with a convincing win over Oshkosh West 51-19.  The team ran its FVA dual meet record to 7-2, tied with Neenah and Fond du Lac. Kaukauna finished 9-0 in FVA action.

 BIG WIN OVER FONDY 31-26

     The Lightning wrestled Monday night as a make-up date due to a snow day earlier against the Cardinals. It was “Alumni Night” and the team responded to the big crowd with a 31-26 FVA win over Fondy. The team is now 6-2 in the FVA tied with Fondy and Neenah. Kaukauna is currently 8-0 and the front runners to win another FVA conference title.
