February 28, 2013 GRANATELLI FINISHES CAREER AT KOHL CENTER It wasn’t the way
senior David Granatelli wanted to end his high school wrestling career.
He lost in the first round to the eventual 2013 State Champion at 120
lbs. Josh Bird of Burlington 8-5, and then lost in the consolation round
to Billy Holz of Menomonee Fall by a pin. His weight class at State was
loaded this year, but to be the best you have to beat the best. He did
make a return trip to the Kohl Center after qualifying at 106 lbs. in
2012. David’s high school wrestling career puts him in the top 5 in a
number of statistical categories and he should be very proud of his
accomplishments. – I know the coaching staff is. No one trained harder
than David this off season and during the season. His teammates,
especially Dellas Vandenberg assisted in the success of David’s journey
to the State Tournament. Congratulations David on another outstanding
season. We wish you well as you graduate, attend UW-Stevens Point, and
hope to step out on the mat at the college level. The 2012-13 wrestling
team had many highs and a few lows, but that’s high school wrestling.
The team set a team record for the most sectional qualifiers (12) in
school history. Our seniors will be dearly missed, and our underclassmen
will need to step it up and compete at a much higher level if we want to
compete for an FVA title and challenge for a D1 team state advancement. We want to thank all
our parents, wrestling alumni, North students, and wrestling fans for
all your support this season. We hope you continue to attend Lightning
wrestling dual meets and tournaments and cheer our wrestling team to
victory. Yours in Wrestling, The Coaching Staff : Coach Clough, Coach Buchinger, Coach Giaimo,
Coach Moua ,and Coach Rivers |

February 16, 2013 GRANATELLI STATE BOUND...AGAIN It was a bitter sweet day for the Lightning at
the WIAA D1 Sectional Tournament held at DePere. Eleven wrestlers saw
their season end and one wrestle advanced to the Individual State
Tournament held in Madison at the Kohl Center. At 120, senior, David Granatelli (38-6) punched his ticket once again to State with a second place finish. David qualified last year at 106. David’s first round match was an 8-1 win over Travis Anklan of Pulaski. In the semi’s, David pinned Isaac Vosters of Menasha in :14 seconds. In the finals, David got pinned at 4:46 by Chase Farr of Bay Port. David then had a wrestleback for a true second place finish. He defeated Jake Close of New London 10-4. David will wrestle Thursday night in the Kohl Center... |
