The Lightning Varsity baseball team opened up the 2006 baseball campaign with a pair of non-conference victories during their spring trip to Disney World. The Lightning defeated a team from Beech, TN 9-5 on Wednesday night. The victory came on the strong pitching performances from Seniors Tom Severson and Darren Reiland. The lightning got timely hits from Matt Ludden and Mike Schumann who combined for 5 RBI's. Jason Bergsbaken scored three runs and scored a huge insurance run after a triple on a big RBI from Nathan Emanuel.
The second game was a 10-5 defeat of a team from South Ridge, Ore. and featured a very strong pitching performance by Marc Rogney who threw four shutout innings and a big offensive game from Darren Reiland who had a double, triple, and three RBI's. Matt Ludden, Mike Schumann, and Tom Severson also contributed with 2 RBI's. The Lightning open up conference play at Oshkosh-North on Tuesday, April 11th.
The Frosh and JV open up play this Friday, April 7th at home. The JV's will open with a game versus Valley 8 foe Hortonville and the Frosh will open with another Valley 8 foe and cross-town rival Xavier.

Tuesday, April 11th.
The varsity baseball team (2-1,0-1)was defeated by the Spartans of Oshkosh-North. Ryan Demmin stifled the Lightning bats by pounding the strike zone and throwing lots of off speed pitches. Oshkosh North jumped out with two runs in the first inning off of starter Tom Severson and never looked back in the 3-1 victory.
The JV baseball team (1-1, 1-0)defeated Oshkosh North 7-1 in conference play. The lightning were led by a complete game victory from starter Brad Dietrich.
The freshman remain undefeated (2-0) with a 10-0 home victory over Oshkosh North. Starter Ty Meiers brought a no-hitter in to the 5th inning.

Thursday, April 13th.
The varsity (2-2,0-2) baseball team was defeated by Neenah 4-1. Neenah was led by Jacob Tesch who through a complete game 3 hitter. Neenah scored two runs in the 4th and 6th innings. Appleton North was led by Tom Severson's two hits, Brent Gomach was 1x1 with an RBI and Darren Reiland gave up two earned runs in 6 innings of work.
The JV's (1-2,1-1)were defeated by Neenah, 10-5 in eight innings.
The freshman (3-0) continued their strong start with an 8-2 victory.

Tuesday, April 18th
The varsity (3-2,1-2) picked up their first conference win of the season with a 5-0 victory over Menasha. Tom Severson picked up the victory with a dominating complete game shutout. He gave up 2 hits, no walks and had 7 strikeouts. Leading hitters for the lightning were Jason Bergsbaken, Nate Emanuel, and Tom Severson who all had two hits. The lightning got on the board in the 4th on a triple by Emanuel and he scored on an error of the relay.
The JV's (2-2,2-1) picked up their second conference win with a 13-3 victory in 6 innings at Menasha. Brad Dietrich picked up the victory.
