AASD Receives Parents Interacting with Infants (PIWI) Community Grant

The Appleton Area School District received a Parents Interacting with Infants (PIWI) community grant. This grant is made possible by the generous support of the Federal Race to the Top fund and will be administered by the Wisconsin Alliance for Infant Mental Health (WI-AIMH).

Parents Interacting with Infants (PIWI), is designed for parents and infants (ages 0-12 months) to interact together with fun floor activities, songs and books.

Parents receive information about their child's development, temperament and interests while having fun at the same time. These playgroups support families by allowing them to learn how to engage their child and facilitate play and learning at an early age. They are a great opportunity for parents and children to explore and grow together.

Appleton Area School District Site Resource Coordinators say they are excited to “provide this valuable parent engagement opportunity to a broader audience in our community.” In addition to hosting these PIWI playgroups at the CELC, they look forward to partnering with Parent Connection and their teen parent group as well as area childcare centers and other community organizations.
