The office of Governor Scott Walker revealed on Friday, July 15th Wisconsin’s three winning schools receiving a Don’t Quit!™ Fitness Center.

Badger Elementary School in Appleton was one of Wisconsin’s most outstanding schools for demonstrating new and innovative ways to promote student physical activity and wellness.

Every Don’t Quit! Fitness Center is financed through public/private partnerships with companies like the Coca-Cola company, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, and Nike, and does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding. Additionally, TuffStuff Fitness International provides all of the fitness equipment.

Ribbon cutting ceremonies will be held this fall to dedicate the new fitness centers.

The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils' mission is to build a nation of the fittest, healthiest kids in the world. Physical activity and exercise are shown to help prevent and treat more than 40 chronic diseases, enhance individual health and quality of life, and reduce health care costs.

In schools, studies show that physical activity improves academic achievement, increases confidence and self-esteem, reduces discipline problems, cuts absenteeism, and fosters better interpersonal relationships.

Through their National Fitness Champion campaign, they plan to award fitness centers to schools in all 50 states.
