Community Day to Return to Highlands/Odyssey

Highlands/Odyssey Elementary will celebrate Community Day on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. This is the 5th year that the students of Highlands/Odyssey will participate in this all-school, all-day event. 

This year’s theme is Be the Change! With a focus on accepting differences and celebrating diversity, this day was started to allow regular education students to be exposed to various disability areas and cultural differences, while highlighting the abilities of those that are impacted by impairments such as autism, intellectual disability, physical disability, and speech-language delays.

Mike McGowan will be the keynote speaker for this year’s Community Day. He will be challenging the students during his daytime presentations that they Be the Change! Mr. McGowan will carryover and add to that theme as he presents to the students’ families and community members at an evening program that begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Highlands/Odyssey gym. 

His evening presentation is titled The Good, The Bad and The Smart Phone-Parenting the Next Generation for Success. The evening program is open to the public. Babysitting services will be available.
