Data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) shows a decline in the percentage of students who considered attempting suicide from 24% in 1997 to 13% in 2009.  This is a significant downward trend; however, the percentage of students actually attempting suicide one or more times is not dropping as quickly.  The percentage of students attempting suicide was 9% in 1999 compared to 6% in 2009.  Our combined efforts in suicide prevention are making a difference, especially considering that our state rate has typically been among the worst in the nation.  There is more work to be done!

Update Regarding Educational Materials Selection

At the Board of Education meeting on October 24, 2011, changes to Board Policy 361: Educational Materials Selection were unanimously approved by the School Board.  A complete copy of this new policy (now referred to as Board Policy 361.1:  Educational Materials Policy and Board Policy 361.2:  Library Media Materials Selection) can be accessed on the AASD website, www.aasd.k12.wi.us.  You may also request a copy of Board Policies 361.1 and 361.2 from your building principal.
