Dates from the Columbus Calendar:
Message from DPI: Data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) shows a decline in the percentage of students who considered attempting suicide from 24% in 1997 to 13% in 2009. This is a significant downward trend; however, the percentage of students actually attempting suicide one or more times is not dropping as quickly. The percentage of students attempting suicide was 9% in 1999 compared to 6% in 2009. Our combined efforts in suicide prevention are making a difference, especially considering that our state rate has typically been among the worst in the nation. There is more work to be done!
