AASD COVID-19 Dashboard FAQ

Updated 9/27

Why does the new COVID-19 Dashboard not share classroom-level data?
The AASD COVID-19 Dashboard contains school-level data but does not identify specific classrooms. This is to preserve the privacy of our students. This is also in line with our procedures for other communicable disease notifications and is similar to last year’s family notifications.

Moving forward, based on input from our public health official and due to the lack of availability of COVID vaccinations for EC-6 students, EC-6 families will be notified via email if there are one or more confirmed positive cases within their child/ren’s classroom.

Who will be monitoring classroom, grade level, and school data to determine if/when additional mitigation measures are needed?
The AASD school nurses, the Assistant Superintendents for School/Student Services, and the District Leadership Team will monitor classroom, grade level, and school data on a daily basis and will consult with public health officials to determine when/if additional mitigation measures such as quarantine, testing, or other measures are needed.

What are the benefits of the new AASD COVID-19 Dashboard?
The COVID-19 Dashboard is beneficial because it gives a current district-wide view of active cases and quarantines. The Dashboard also provides more timely information with daily Monday through Friday updates each day at 6:00 p.m.

How will I be notified if my student is a close contact?
At this time, contact tracing will be limited to siblings and household members of a confirmed positive case. If you report your student to have tested COVID-19 positive, a school nurse will contact you for more information. The exception to this is for EC-6 students, EC-6 families will be notified via email if there are one or more confirmed positive cases within their child/ren’s classroom.

Why are we only contact tracing for AASD household members of the positive case?
This is based on CDC guidance: In the K–12 indoor classroom setting, the close contact definition excludes students who were within 3 to 6 feet of an infected student (laboratory-confirmed or a clinically compatible illness) if both the infected student and the exposed student(s) correctly and consistently wore well-fitting masks the entire time.

We will continue to require appropriate face coverings/masks, encourage the use of hand sanitizer/hand washing, and use physical distancing or podding as our layered mitigation strategies to limit the spread of COVID-19.

What does a positive case mean?
A current positive case indicates that an AASD staff member or student has been tested, confirmed positive, and reported to the District.

What quarantines are listed on the Dashboard?
As a reminder, contact tracing will only be conducted for AASD household members of the positive case. A current quarantine case indicates that an individual AASD student or staff member has been ordered to quarantine because they are a household member of a COVID-19 positive individual who is an AASD staff member or student.

How will I know if there is a confirmed positive case at my 4K community partner location?
Due to combining all partner locations as one data point on the Dashboard, Appleton Community 4K families enrolled at community 4K partner sites will continue to receive letters if a positive case occurs.

Confirmed positive cases that occur within a 4K classroom located at an AASD school site will be counted within that school site's dashboard data.

How long does a positive case stay on the dashboard?
Current positive cases are removed as students and staff return to school/work.

I know there are more students absent in my student’s class but that information is not represented accurately on the dashboard.
Other illnesses/absences are not documented within the Dashboard. Students who are required to be quarantined by the health department due to an individual who is not an AASD staff or student are not documented within the Dashboard. There may also be a delay in reporting/testing/confirming by the family or staff member of a positive case.
