Civics Examination

Beginning with the graduating class of 2016-17, a high school diploma may not be granted until all students have taken and passed, with a score of 65 or better, the civics exam. Wisconsin Act 59 (2017) reverses Act 212 that allowed a student with special needs who had an IEP to allow the IEP team the ability to govern the civics exam requirement. Act 59 now requires all students to take the required civics exam, but successful completion of the test cannot be a condition of graduation for a student with an IEP.
