AASD MSDS Database

1. Start MSDS Search
This search will return MSDS sheets for every building and every department throughout the entire AASD district. This is a global search and will return all records in the database. Duplicate entries will not be displayed. For example, if "acetone" is used at five different schools, it will only be displayed once with this search. The building and/or department associated with the chemical will not be displayed.

All searches by default will only return 25 results per page. You may select either more or less results to be returned per page. Additional pages associated with the search will be displayed at the bottom of the results page.

You may search for information in any one of four (4) different ways as described below:

1. Product Name:
Every substance has a primary product name as indicated on the label. You do not need to know the entire product name when you search for it. You can enter partial names as well. For example, entering "ace" will return results for anything that contains "ace" such as acetone, pentaacetonitrile, acetylsalicylic acid, and so on. Results will be sorted alphabetically by the Product Name. If you do not enter any Product Name, the search will return the MSDSs for every Product Name listed in the database.

2. Synonym Name:
Synonyms are other names that the product may be called and may be listed on the MSDS or simply be known by what employees may call the substance. For example, the technical name for Aspirin is called acetylsalicylic acid. Most people would not know this. If for some reason you could not find an MSDS for acetylsalicylic acid under the Product Name search, you could search for aspirin under the Synonym Name search and it would find it. You do not need to know the entire synonym name when you search for it. You can enter partial names as well. For example, entering "as"" will return results for anything that contains "as" such as aspirin, asparagus, phenolasamine, and so on. Results will be sorted alphabetically by the first synonym name only that was entered into the database. As a result, you may have to use the "search" feature on your web browser to find the name you are looking for once the results are displayed. If you do not enter any synonym name, the search will return the MSDSs for every synonym name listed in the database.
3. Supplier Name:
Every substance used by the school district is supplied and/or manufactured by someone. The typical supplier name is the name of the company that manufactured the product as indicated on the product label. You do not need to know the entire supplier name when you search for it. You can enter partial names as well. For example, entering "b" will return results for anything that contains "b" such as babcock office supplies, lab supply, b&b manufacturing, and so on. Results will be sorted alphabetically by the Supplier Name. If you do not enter any supplier name, the search will return the MSDSs for every Supplier Name listed in the database.

4. CAS Number:
All pure chemical substances, such as those used in chemistry laboratories, has been assigned a unique identifying number known as the CAS (Chemical Abstract Services) Number. For example, formaldehyde as been assigned the CAS Number of 50-00-0. Commercial products such as cleaners, paints, glues, etc do not have unique CAS number as they are usually a mixture of many different substances. CAS Numbers are only entered into the database for pure chemical substances only.

All CAS numbers have the following format "00000-00-0". When you enter a CAS number search, follow the "00000-00-0" format for the number you are searching. Do not use preceding zeros in the first "00000" section. For example, for formaldehyde, enter "50-00-0" instead of "00050-00-0". You can enter partial numbers as well. For example, entering "5" will return results for anything that contains "5" such as 50-00-0, 265-42-1, 49-34-5, and so on. Results will be sorted numerically by the CAS Number. If you do not enter any CAS numbers, the search will return the MSDSs for every CAS Number listed in the database.

Sorry Messages:
If you receive a "Sorry" message during your search, the database did not find any records that matched your search criteria. Try entering a different search term or try a different search. If you are having difficulties, do not enter anything in the search field and simply depress the enter button. This will return a list of all MSDSs within the database. You may then view all the records in the database and select the MSDS for the one you are searching for.

Viewing MSDS Sheets:
Material Safety Data Sheets are available for on-line viewing and printing to your local printer. MSDS sheets are scanned and converted into Adobe Portable Document Format (pdf) files. You must have a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader® installed as a plug-in to your Internet browser to view these files. If you don't, you will not be able to view the MSDS sheets on-line and your browser will prompt you to save the PDF File to your hard drive. You may download a free copy of the Acrobat Reader by clicking on the button below. The reader is available for both PCs and Macs.

Once you have the Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, simply click the MSDS icon to view the MSDS sheet that you are interested in. Once it is displayed on your screen, you may print it to the printer connected to your computer.
