Version]Click Start - Run - then type in MSTSC

This will bring up a Remote Desktop windows similar to the one
below
Enter remote.aasd.k12.wi.us as indicated and click
Connect

When prompted to enter your username, enter:
aasd\username
(and make sure it's a backslash (\) and NOT a forward slash
(/)
Enter your password
You should be able to remotely connect, but
may want to take of some other features as described below. If you press
on the "Options" button, you will see that you can add more features.
Under the general tab, you may add the option to save your name, under the
"Display" Tab, you can customize the screen size, under the "Local Resources"
Tab, you can add the options of supporting your local printers and even mapping
your local drives. Under the "Experience" Tab, you can customize the
availability of options to match you speed of connection.

Version]Click on the Microsoft button
on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
In the area where it says Search programs & Files, type in mstsc.

On the lower left-hand corner, please click on the down arrow next to Options.

Next to computer, type: remote.aasd.k12.wi.us. Next to Username, type: aasd\ and then your username (example:
aasd\smithjohn). Under Connection Settings, click on
Save. Click on Connect.

Next you will get a Windows Security window asking for your password. Please enter your
district password.

Click OK. You will then be prompted for a
Certificate.
Click Yes.

Please note that your WEB browser must
support Active X controls.
In
order to do this, you may need to add
http://remote.aasd.k12.wi.us as a trusted site in your
browser. Here are the steps to do so under
Internet Explorer and Windows XP prior to service Pack 3.
If you have Vista or service pack 3 for XP installed go to
these instructions (here).
You will see the guidelines to install
an active X control in the bar across the top of the
browser. (Internet explorer version 6 or 7).
Please click on the bar to install the control needed.

Click Run and
install the control.
If you see this error, then you need to add
http://remote.aasd.k12.wi.us to the approved list of
"trusted sites".Under the "Tools"
and "Options", you will find a setting for "Security" as
indicated below:

Click on Security at the
top, and
highlight the Trusted Sites as indicated below.

Add the trusted site
http://*.aasd.k12.wi.us as
indicated below.
Remove the check for Require server ver...
Click Close

You may have to restart your Browser
(close out and start again).

This time you should be able to run the
active control that allows you l to connect to the remote access
site.

If you receive the
error below, you may have the Remote Desktop tools disabled
as an add-on. This is a typical setting for
Windows XP with Service Pack 3, or with Vista.. You
will the the error as indicated below.

To clear the error, click
Tools - Manage Add-ons - Enable or Disable Add-ons as indicated in the
picture below

You will have to enable the plug-in
(add-on) for remote desktop.
You should see a screen similar to one
of those below. Look for the plug-in called "Microsoft
Terminal Services Client Control", and highlight. Please be sure to enable the control. Once enable, you
may have to restart your browser (close and start again).
You should now be able to access the remote system,
http://remote.aasd.k12.wi.us.


Remote access on a Mac

You can user the remote client for Mac to connect from
home via remote.aasd.k12.wi.us
There are two versions of the client so which one needs
on your Mac
Option 1: For Processor: Macintosh PowerPC,
Operating System: Mac OS X version 10.2.8
or later
- Download and install this
CLIENT
- Open Finder
- Open Application Folder
- Open Remote Desktop Connection
- Enter remote.aasd.k12.wi.us
- Enter username and password and make sure it says
AASD for the domain.
Option 2: For Operating System: Mac OS X version
10.4.9 (Tiger) or a later version
- Download and install this
CLIENT
- Open Finder
- Open Application Folder
- Open Remote Desktop Connection
- Enter remote.aasd.k12.wi.us
- Enter username and password and make sure it says
AASD for the domain.
If you're not sure whether you computer meets these
requirements, you can display information about your
computer by using the Apple System Profiler program included
with Mac OS X. To start the program click the
Apple menu - About This Mac - More Info
When connecting, you should specify
remote.aasd.k12.wi.us as the name
of the remote computer
If you have trouble connecting and have a firewall or
router, ask your techie friend to make sure port 3389 is
open.
