Mental Health Wellness Festival

In collaboration with Prevent Suicide Fox Cities and Catalpa Health, Appleton West is sponsoring a Mental Health Wellness Festival on May 20th. There will be an event for students at the end of the school day as well as a free community event at night from 5-8 p.m. 

The student event is from 1:30-3:40 p.m. Students will hear a keynote speaker and then will be dismissed to the football field at 2:15 p.m. and can visit the resources and activities until 3:40 p.m.

The students are playing a game called Lucky 7 and need to fill out seven spots on their card to qualify for a drawing/prizes. Each resource will have a marker on the table to color in a spot on this card.

Some of the activities on the field will include a band, inflatable obstacle courses, therapy animals – dogs and a mini horse, a walking obstacle course, photos with friends and Kona Ice and much more.

The Community Event is open to adults and students from 5-8 p.m. The night will kick off with Keynote Speaker Jeff Olson, Do It For Daniel from 5-5:45 p.m.

After the keynote, adults can choose three of the 12 mini breakout sessions presented by local experts. At 7:15 p.m., there will be a Town Hall Meeting with eight expert panelists field questions from the audience, moderated by Kristie Marx, Catalpa Health.

8. How to say NO to bad habits and improve your discipline - Zach Vallafskey, co-owner/founder of Iron Alliance, Business Administration and Coaching from UWSP

9. Be Your Own Best Friend & Self Respect – Cindy Reffke, Board Chairwoman, Prevent Suicide Fox Cities and Josh Arthurs, owner/founder Respect The Flag Apparel

10. Yoga – breath, move, rejuvenate your self – Megan Leigh Knuth, certifications as an Yoga therapist specializing in PTSD/Trauma Yoga, Advanced Yoga, Yoga for Children, Holistic Nutritional Counseling, as well as Compassion Fatigue Counseling and Recovery Yoga

11. Hidden in Plain Sight- What parents should know - Hannah Wilz is a Certified Health Education Specialist with a degree in Public Health/ Community Health Education from the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse.

12. Ketamine: the newest tool in treatment resistant depression - Bob Amorde, MD, Medical Director of Ketamine Wellness Center, Appleton and board certified practicing anesthesiologist.
