Summer of Service 2018
Posted on 08/13/2018
Summer of Service is a joint program between the Appleton Police Department, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Appleton Area School District.

You may see the teens working with a variety of community partners over the next couple weeks including, Riverview Gardens, Appleton Parks and Recreation, and the Bubolz Nature Preserve.

This year the team is also painting a public art mural on the north side of the Grand Meridian on N. Oneida St. The design for the mural was created by Irineo Medina, STAR Opportunity Coordinator from Maplewood MS. Irineo says that the inspiration for his artwork was to highlight the strength of women in his life and in all of our lives.

In addition to partnering with local agencies to complete service projects in the community, participants engage in team-building activities, service learning opportunities, and take part in a curriculum designed to improve social accountability.

Students who complete the program can earn a variety of incentives including, high school credit, a free bike, a stipend, and get community service hours credit.
