At the August 23, 2021 Board meeting, two new Board members were appointed.

We welcome James Bacon and Amanda Stuck to the AASD Board of Education!

Board Member James Bacon
James began his career as a middle school math teacher in a small Arkansas town, where he also fundraised over $20,000 in six months to take some of his students to Washington DC. Since then, he’s also coached teachers across almost all grades and subjects in K-12, overseen hiring for Boston Public Schools, and founded Teach For America region in northeast Louisiana, where he recruited and trained teachers in underserved areas.

James BaconHe currently oversees outreach and operations for Edficiency, where he helps middle and high schools across the country simplify logistics for flexible intervention periods by automating the daily rosters. He’s the father of two young boys, with his oldest starting 4k in AASD this fall. He holds a BS in Business from Wake Forest University and MSEd in Education Entrepreneurship from the University of Pennsylvania.

He’s excited to leverage his experience in education in serving the students, families, and staff of AASD in this role and believes in doing what is best for students and those that most directly work with them on a daily basis. He cares about hearing the perspectives of others and welcomes you to reach out if you have anything you’d like to share with him. 

Amanda StuckBoard Member Amanda Stuck

Amanda was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, and is married with two children. She is a graduate of Appleton North High School and attended Fox Valley Technical College; she received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2007 and her Master of Public Administration degree from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2012.

Currently she is the Director of HR and Community Engagement for Valley Packaging Industries. She is also a caregiver, a part-time substitute teacher and a school bus driver. Amanda is a former State Legislator, housing specialist with Appleton Housing Authority, legislative aide for Congressman Steve Kagan, and rural mail carrier. 

Her community engagement involvement includes Wisconsin Future Caucus former cochair, CSG Midwest Legislative Conference Economic Development Committee, Outagamie County Local Emergency Planning Commission, Major, Wisconsin Wing, Civil Air Patrol Legislative Squadron (official Auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force), planning committee member for CESA 6 Women Leading Wisconsin, former Kaleidoscope Academy board member, Respite Care Association of Wisconsin board member, Neighborhood Housing, Inc. board member, Menasha Rotary, and the Appleton Redevelopment Authority.
