Special Education Services & Related Services

AASD special education staff are a district-wide team of professional educators and support personnel who are dedicated to the success of all students in the Appleton Area School District. They provide a wide range of instructional and support services, including special education and related services for students with disabilities.

Special education classes and/or Related Services are available to students who have a special education need as defined by Chapter 115, Wisconsin Statutes or the Individuals with Disabilities Act. Availability

The district, when determining placement options, will first consider the regular classroom located at the student's neighborhood school. Other placements will be considered when it is determined that the student's needs cannot be reasonably met within that environment.

Provision of Services

All special education classes and/or support services are only available through the recommendation(s) of the district's Individual Education Plan (IEP) team. Participation of regular education teachers in the IEP team process is required because of their knowledge of the general curriculum and classroom accommodations that facilitate student success.
