Nikola Tesla is Back in the News
The January 14, 2010 issue of the Wall Street Journal Online includes an
article about famed yet forgotten inventor and namesake for Tesla Engineering Charter School, Nikola Tesla.
Nikola is gaining popularity with many tech companies whose products bear his name, including the Tesla Roadster,
Nvidia's Tesla processors and even a character in the Dark Void video game saga.
Tesla was also featured on National Public Radio's On Point with Tom Ashbrook program on Wednesday, Jaunary 27, 2010.
As Ashbrook starts out "The world could use a new dose of innovation. The U.S. economy, in particular, is in the market for some
game-changers." Another like Tesla might be just the spark we need!
The transcript of the entire program can be found
here.
UW-System Accepts PLTW Courses for College Credit
The University of Wisconsin System met in early December and gave final approval for a new policy
that will provide high school students with college credit for the Project Lead The Way classes
they complete. The policy will closely resemble advanced standing agreements with
other PLTW affiliate colleges and universities requiring students to score an 85% or higher on course
content and a 70% or higher on the final examination.
This is a tremendous new opportunity for our students and another validation of the rigor and relevance of
the PLTW curriculum. We look forward to stronger ties between Tesla and UW-System schools as a result.
The final policy can be seen here.
Coming Soon! Civil Engineering & Architecture
Beginning in Fall, 2010 students in Tesla will have yet another opportunity available to them - the Project Lead The Way Civil
Engineering and Archiecture class! Scheduled in coordination with the Engineering Design and Development class, CEA provides
a new area of engineering exploration for our students.
Future engineers who are interested in structural engineering, architecture, urban planning and construction will have
the chance to dig deep into this exciting, creative field beginning next year.
