Substitute Teachers
Teacher Type Daily Rate
Teacher $140.00 (1-10 days), $160 (11-19 days), $210 (20+ days)
Teacher with Special Education License or AASD training
$155 (1-10 days), $175 (11-19 days), $225 (20+ days)

Requirements
  • Current Wisconsin Educator License OR
  • Associate degree or higher and Substitute License
  • Completed application on Frontline
Substitute License

We accept applicants who have a Bachelor's or Associate's degree but do not hold a teaching license. Training is provided through CESA 6, which allows the applicant to obtain a Substitute License through the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

New substitutes are initially assigned to one building where they can connect with a consistent staff team, become familiar with procedures, and receive support as they are learning the job.

Substitute Support Staff (Paraprofessionals/Administrative Assistants)
Support Staff Type Hourly Rate
Paraprofessional $14.50 or $15.00 (20+ days)
Special Ed Para with Special Ed Training $15.50 or $15.80 (20+ days)
Administrative Assistant $16.50 or $19.26 (20+ days)
ELL Interpreter (Hmong/Spanish) $15.75 or $16.69 (20+ days)
DHH Interpreter $23.00 or $23.85 (20+ days)

Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Completed application on Frontline

Support Staff work at all levels and all schools.

Paraprofessionals

  • Assist teachers in regular education classrooms
  • Assist in libraries and lunchrooms
  • Assist teachers in Special Education classrooms
  • Work as Hmong or Spanish interpreters
  • Ride the school bus to and from school with our Special Education students
  • Once hired, the AASD will pay for the substitute to acquire a Special Education Aide license through DPI
Administrative Assistants
  • Assist in an office environment in our school and district offices

Substitute Pupil Services

Pupil Services includes School Psychologists, School Social Workers, and School Counselors.

Requirements
  • Current Wisconsin Pupil Services License
  • Bachelor's degree or higher

Mandatory Training

In accordance with the law and District policy, all Appleton Area School District employees (including Substitute, Hourly & Co-Curricular employees) must complete the following training:

  • Abuse and Neglect Reporting Training
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  • Seclusion and Physical Restraint Training
  • Reporting of School Violence Threats

Online training modules have been established to complete these requirements through Frontline Education.
