Student Mentor - Level Up Summer Program

The Appleton Area School District has a Level Up Student Mentor position available for the summer (10 hours a week) for a current Appleton Area School District middle or high school student.

Business Services/Payroll Summer Worker

The worker will assist the Business Services/Payroll Department with a wide range of functions and projects related to Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts receivable. In this position, the worker will learn to apply academic knowledge to a professional setting.  Responsibilities, Tasks and Duties May Include:  
Participation in large projects initiated by accounts payable, accounts receivable or payroll.
Filing current reports and work papers for departments.
Transfer of annual files to storage.
Assist in prep for annual audit - pulling files/scanning/making copies.
Process payroll timesheets that are completed by school personnel.
Process invoices under the direction of District Accounts Payable Specialist.
Data entry in spreadsheets and creating/modifying Word documents.
Data entry and management in Skyward system.
Assume other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Current student in technical college, undergrad or grad program in Accounting, Business or Education.
Ability to work cooperatively in a team-oriented, fast-paced work environment while maintaining positive working relationships with co-workers, staff, administrators, service providers, and outside agencies.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information such as payroll information and medical records.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel.
Strong oral and written communication skills, clear and courteous communications with the public and staff in various formats (email, letter, phone, and in person).
Functional knowledge of business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Ability to analyze material in order to prepare reports and correspondence.
Organizational and time management skills as applied to ongoing projects, filing, records organization, and task coordination.
Detail-oriented, self-starter with the ability to adjust to changing priorities and deadlines.

Working Conditions/Environment
Duties are performed in an office environment. Physical requirements include the dexterity to reach, stand, climb, and squat, use keyboards, lift light loads, and the ability to do sedentary work.

  • Student must reside within the boundaries of the Appleton Area School District
  • Student must be a Senior in high school in fall 2022 OR in a post-secondary program of study (IT preferred)
  • Student must provide proof of most recent GPA with application
  • Student must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • There is a maximum of five years’ experience

Student IT Worker Position Application


Summer Maintenance Position

The work assignment will be for 12 weeks. Students who have worked on the crew will receive first consideration for the following year (for a maximum of five years), provided they’ve received a satisfactory evaluation. Only one student from a family can be hired on the crew each year.

NEW FOR 2022: Current AASD paraprofessionals are also eligible for these positions and are encouraged to apply.

All applications will be reviewed based on the following Employment Criteria:

  • Applicants residing within AASD boundaries will be given first consideration
  • Student must be a high school Senior in the fall of 2022 OR currently enrolled in a post-secondary program of study
  • Student must provide proof of college acceptance with application (if applicable)
  • Student must provide proof of most recent GPA (college, if enrolled, or high school) with application
  • Student must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Individuals will be hired on a point system consisting of the following:

  • A complete application, including a letter of acceptance from college and proof of GPA
  • Current GPA  
  • Involvement in extra-curricular/community volunteer activities 
  • Previous work experience
  • Qualifications
