Family Communication 7-11-25

Appleton Area School District families,

We hope you are enjoying a fun, safe, and relaxing summer! As we look ahead to the 2025–26 school year, we want to keep families informed and prepared. In this message, you’ll find important updates on required annual registration, free sports physicals, Extended Day Learning programs, and school supply lists.

We’re also inviting community members to participate in a public listening session on student attendance, provide feedback on instructional materials, and tour newly improved and constructed school buildings during our August Referendum Open House. Don’t miss our Support Staff Hiring Event next week, and mark your calendars for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Sandy Slope Elementary in September.

We look forward to welcoming our students back in the fall, ready for new adventures and academic achievements. The first day of school for neighborhood schools for the 2025-26 school year is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Find next year’s calendar here.

Required Annual Registration

Required annual online registration for the 2025-26 school year is now open via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. This annual process is done to confirm and/or update your student’s information.

Be sure to take advantage of getting a jump start on the upcoming school year by completing registration as early as possible for your family. Prompt registration allows us to properly schedule buses, assign teachers, and provide any other services that might be necessary. Early registration allows us to provide the individual and personal attention your child/ren deserve.

Families are also asked to log in to the Portal later this summer to complete additional forms, if necessary. Additional information will be provided when the additional forms are available for families.

Please note, updating your method of contact preferences is a very important part of the annual registration process. All contact preferences are set back to all methods, and are only changed through the registration process or updating through the Portal once the school year has begun.

Need assistance completing your required annual registration? Families needing assistance should contact the Welcome Center at (920) 852-5308 to schedule appointments for online registration and interpreter support during the weeks of July 21 - August 8, 2025.

Extended Day Learning Opportunities

The AASD offers high-quality, sustainable out-of-school time learning opportunities and programming for students. These programs are provided through partnerships with the Appleton YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley (BGC). Site coordinators are located at each school to create vital links between the students' school hours and non-school hours.

When severe weather strikes and our schools are closed, our partners at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Fox Valley and the YMCA can help! Both programs offer care options for families on these days. From structured activities to nutritious meals, they provide a safe and nurturing environment for students when schools are closed due to severe weather or other unexpected situations. Learn more.

When there isn't school due to Staff Professional Development, or during our winter and spring breaks, our partners can help. Boys & Girls Club registration for general no school days opens on July 21, 2025, with winter and spring break registrations opening later in the school year. YMCA of the Fox Cities registration for these days opens on August 4, 2025. Learn more here.

School Supply Lists for 2025-26 School Year

Many school supply lists for the upcoming school year are available, and more will continue to be added over the next few weeks. Our goal is to ensure that every student is prepared and ready for a successful year of leading, caring, and contributing. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to your school. School supply lists are available here or on your school's website under Families.

Public Listening Session on Student Attendance Policy Initiative Planned for August 4, 2025

The AASD and the City of Appleton invite families and community members to participate in a public listening session on the AASD–City of Appleton Student Attendance Policy Initiative on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. in the Cornerstone Conference Room at the Appleton Public Library, 200 N Appleton St, Appleton. This session is part of our ongoing efforts to address and improve high school student attendance in collaboration with the City of Appleton.

Last March, the AASD presented to the Appleton Common Council to request the City’s support in improving student attendance. The issue was referred to the City’s Safety & Licensing Committee, but discussion was postponed to allow time for collaboration and additional perspectives. It is expected to return to the committee’s agenda in early fall 2025. While progress has been made, several important questions remain. The AASD has also prepared a Frequently Asked Questions resource, which can be found here.

This listening session provides an important opportunity to hear directly from our community. We invite you to share input, ask questions, and help shape our collective approach to supporting student attendance and engagement. Feedback collected will help guide future decisions and will be shared with the Common Council as this work moves forward. Community input is welcome and encouraged.

AASD Invites Community to Explore Referendum-Funded School Improvements on August 20, 2025

The AASD is inviting the public to tour our schools on Wednesday, August 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, to see firsthand how the community’s support of the 2022 referendum has transformed learning environments across the district.

Community members can visit up to 12 school buildings improved or built through the 2022 referendum at the AASD Schools Open House. Community members, families, staff, and students are invited to stop in, explore the facilities, and connect with school leaders who will be available to answer questions and share highlights. Learn more here.

Save the Date for Sandy Slope Elementary’s Ribbon-Cutting

Please join us for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for Sandy Slope Elementary School, the first new school built in the Appleton Area School District in over 30 years, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at  5:30 p.m. at 2625 E. Edgewood Drive. Our district believes in the value of neighborhood elementary schools, and so we are incredibly excited to be adding a school to this neighborhood.

Feedback Requested on Instructional Materials

The Board of Education, as the governing body of the District, is legally responsible for all educational materials utilized within the instructional program of the AASD. We are currently soliciting feedback on the instructional materials for:

As part of the adoption process, AASD staff members, students, parents, and residents are provided with the opportunity to examine and contribute feedback on the recommended instructional materials. The feedback collected will be considered by the committee to determine the final list of instructional materials recommended to the AASD Board of Education. Learn more about Materials Review in the AASD.

Community Opportunities for Students

Each month, the AASD shares local community opportunities for students. These community opportunities for students include upcoming events and activities such as art and music camps, youth athletics, cultural events, enriching programs, and more. We encourage our families to review these opportunities for students of all ages. Check out this page at any time for a current list of opportunities.
