AASD High School Marching Band Showcase Brings District Bands Together for New Community Event

The Appleton Area School District will bring its three high school marching bands together for the first AASD High School Marching Band Showcase on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at North High School Football Stadium.

The event will feature the Appleton East, Appleton West, and Appleton North high school marching bands, with each performing its 2026 Homecoming halftime show. Performances will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Appleton North Football Stadium and run through approximately 1:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, and community members are invited to attend. No registration or tickets are required. Public parking is available behind North High School near the football stadium. There is additional parking on Ashbury and Lightning Drive.

Each band will perform for approximately 15 minutes, with introductions and transitions between performances. Announcers will introduce each school's performance and include information about how each school prepares for their homecoming halftime performance, including how music is picked and how they come up with the marching drills.

The showcase also provides an opportunity for AASD band students to connect across schools. Many AASD 8th-grade band students, along with 5th-grade students from Sandy Slope Elementary School, will attend the performances.

Following the showcase, from approximately 1:30–2:40 p.m., high school band students will lead activities for the younger musicians. Activities will include:

  • A high school band student panel and question-and-answer session
  • A discussion of how students balance band with other activities
  • Introduction to basic marching techniques on the football field
  • Get-to-know-you activities with high school band students
  • Door prizes and giveaways

The showcase is not a competition. Its purpose is to bring AASD band students together to support and celebrate one another's performances while helping younger students understand what to expect from a high school marching band.

"Most of the time, our high school band students don't get the opportunity to experience each other's shows," said Amanda Balane, Appleton North Band Director. "This gives us a chance to celebrate each other's work and build a community of band students throughout the AASD. It also gives our middle school students a chance to see what high school band and marching will be like."

In the event of inclement weather, the showcase will be held Thursday, Oct. 15, following the same schedule.
