The Appleton Area School District has joined a community initiative to implement a comprehensive CPR and AED program across its school buildings and offices, aiming to enhance safety for students, visitors, and staff.
This effort, in collaboration with Project ADAM and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, prepares the school to respond effectively to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) incidents by equipping buildings with AEDs and training staff in CPR/AED procedures.
AEDs are accessible and will only administer a shock if a shockable rhythm is detected. The program includes a maintenance plan for the AEDs and operates as a Public Access Defibrillation program outside regular school hours.
The initiative is part of a broader state-wide effort to improve the cardiac chain of survival, inspired by Project ADAM, a non-profit dedicated to preventing sudden cardiac death in memory of Adam Lemel.
