In the fall of 2022, voters approved both referendum questions on the ballot. One question supported increased staffing and operational costs for our new spaces and the second question approved $130 million for the construction/renovations of our schools.
Progress, timelines, and updates on referendum projects will be shared on our district website. We encourage you to follow along to see our community’s investment in action.
Below is a more detailed list.
- Reduction of Kindergarten-2nd grade class sizes districtwide
- The hiring of 12 STEM teachers at the elementary level
- Modernization of our four middle schools, adding capacity to allow for the inclusion of 6th grade, and updating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) areas
- Building a new elementary school on district-owned property to accommodate enrollment growth on the north side of our district

Construction on the new 600-student elementary school is progressing as scheduled. The interior is taking shape, with drywall and ceilings being completed. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing lines are continuing. Windows continue to be installed, and the masonry is nearing completion. The classroom pods that are the farthest along are having cabinetry installed and walls painted. Sandy Slope will open for the 2025-26 school year.
East High School
The roof for the two-story addition of classrooms and fitness center expansion is expected to be completed by the end of January. Interior mechanical work is already underway, and work on the interior finishes will begin shortly. The project remains on schedule and is set to open at the start of the 2025-26 school year.
West High School
The stand-alone indoor physical education and sports practice facility now has metal siding installed on one side of the structure, with the roof expected to be completed by mid-February. Both this facility and the concession stand are on track to be ready for the start of the next school year. Additionally, we are currently in the design phase for the rear parking lot.
North High School
The two-story fitness addition which includes two new classrooms is well underway. The brickwork is nearing completion and the building is waiting for windows to arrive. Electricians and plumbers are also working on the interior. The fitness equipment will be delivered later this spring. The fitness center will be open for use this summer.
Remodeling of the existing interior spaces is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025. This includes the construction of two additional science labs. The school’s Technology Center will also be undergoing a remodel to better serve the current curriculum. The classrooms and other remodeling will be completed before the start of the 2025-26 school year.
Elementary School Projects
The bidding process for the STEM classrooms is currently underway, with the majority of the work set to begin in early June. The projects also include enhancing security measures at Ferber and Houdini elementary schools.
Classical School
The seven-classroom addition is nearing completion, with finishing touches currently underway. In early January, the teaching staff had the opportunity to tour the roughed-in classrooms. The connection to the existing building is scheduled for early June, coinciding with the start of interior renovations for three classrooms, which will include a STEM room, an Art room, and a Band room. All work at Classical is on track to be completed before the start of the next school year.
