SCHOOL BOARD GOVERNANCE
The School Board derives its authority to govern the District schools directly from the Wisconsin Constitution and State statutes. The Board also recognizes it has an obligation to the community it serves and the persons it employs to discharge its duties and obligations in a fiscally responsible way and in a manner that will best provide for the success for all students in the District, academically, socially, and emotionally.
With this in mind, the Board shall carry out the following governance responsibilities:
- Set educational standards and goals for the District’s schools that reflect community values and interests that are aligned with the District’s vision and mission.
- Concentrate the Board's collective effort on its policy-making responsibilities.
- Employ a Superintendent as its advisor and delegate to him/her the authority and responsibility to implement the Board's policies and manage the District on a day-to-day basis.
- Adopt the District’s annual operating budget and provide the financial resources necessary to carry out the District’s vision and mission and to achieve its goals.
- Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress of the schools and provide for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with students, families, staff, and the community and consider their opinions, desires, and ideas in District decision-making.
- Conduct official Board business openly and in an efficient and productive manner.
- Evaluate the Board’s performance, as well as that of the Superintendent, on a regular basis – identifying areas of strength and areas in need of improvement.
- Perform the specific duties imposed upon it by law.
