TITLE I PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

The Appleton Area School District believes that parent involvement is important to student achievement. The AASD encourages parents to become actively involved in their child’s education and acknowledges that parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning. The AASD will provide appropriate opportunities for parents to become involved in the design and implementation of the District’s Title I program. These opportunities include:

• Participation in an annual meeting at each Title I school to discuss student progress and evaluation, and develop the Title I program plan at the building for the following year.
• Individual involvement in developing a Parent-Teacher-Student Compact or Agreement that suits the individual Title I family.
• Involvement in decision making for Title I parent involvement activities to improve student learning, extend parental expertise and capacity for strong parent involvement, and focus on educational issues and instructional techniques.
• Participation in parent/teacher conferences a minimum of twice per year.
• Other activities as deemed appropriate by administration.

In addition, the Appleton Area School District will ensure that:

• Coordination and integration for parent involvement activities occurs with other District or grant programs, such as Reading First, and that collaboration with other agencies occurs, as appropriate.
• Opportunities to understand programs, meetings, brochures, are provided in a uniform format, including alternate formats upon request, and, to the extent practical, in a language parents can understand.
