SMOKING AND TOBACCO USE

In the interest of a tobacco-free environment and in compliance with State law, smoking and/or use of other tobacco or nicotine products (including electronic cigarettes) is prohibited in all School District buildings, on all District controlled properties, excluding residential properties, and in all school-sponsored transportation vehicles, at all times.

SMOKING AND TOBACCO USE

Procedures

Purpose:

The District is dedicated to providing a healthy, comfortable, and productive environment for staff, students, and citizens. The District believes that education has a central role in establishing patterns of behavior related to good health and shall take measures to help its clientele resist tobacco usage with the intent of maintaining an environment free from the contaminants caused by tobacco usage. Tobacco use cessation programs will be made available to staff and students on a periodic basis to assist in this purpose.

Enforcement:

The success of this policy will depend upon the thoughtfulness, consideration, and cooperation of tobacco users and nonusers. All individuals on school premises share in the responsibility for adhering to and enforcing this policy. Penalties may be invoked according to rules established by the administration for the students in the schools and by provisions of the disciplinary procedures outlined in handbooks for the various employee groups.
