MLK Jr. Community Day of Service
MLK 2020

The second annual MLK Jr. Community Day of
Service will be on Monday, January 20, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at West High School, located at 610 N. Badger Ave. in Appleton.

It is free and open to the public.

This day of service is organized by the
community for the community with the hope of continuing Dr. King’s legacy of civic and
community service. There will be a community
march, soul food sampling, student cultural
performances and presentations, community
booths, and volunteering opportunities both on
and off-site.

The community march will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the main entrance of Wilson Middle School, 225 N. Badger Ave. and will end in the auditorium of Appleton West. An alternative route is available if the weather does not cooperate.

The program will start at 10:00 a.m. Participants will be inspired by performances from our elementary to high school students. We will also learn more about Dr. King through videos and presentations, and hear directly from our students.

Nonprofits, community agencies, and other diverse organizations will be located in the West Small Gym ready to share their resources and services as well as offering volunteering opportunities to learn, engage, and impact the community.Guardian

We’d like to thank Guardian Life for their continued support and sponsorship of the soul food sampling catered by Cozzy Corner. The menu will include a variety of soul foods along with a famous peach cobbler.

The day culminates with an opportunity to serve others. Participants are encouraged to pre-register for volunteering opportunities that will take place in the afternoon. Volunteer opportunities will include the Community Clothes Closet in Menasha, two Habitat for Humanity ReStore locations in Appleton, and Riverview Gardens in Appleton. For those that prefer to stay onsite, we will also have service projects and activities available at Appleton West.
