Summer Reading Tips

Summer learning loss, the phenomenon where young people lose academic skills over the summer, is one of the most significant causes of the opportunity gap for students of color and one of the strongest contributors to the high school push out rate. Each summer, students can lose 2-3 months of reading and math proficiency and by 5th grade, may be 2-3 years behind their peers who participated in activities during the summer.

The thing is, children don't have to lose over the summer. In fact, you can encourage your child to have a summer of fun and learning with these four free and easy things to do. Try them out!
