Pheng Thao was elected to a three-year term on the Appleton Area School District Board of Education on April 5, 2022.

A message from newly elected Board of Education member Pheng Thao.

Pheng Thao is honored to join the Appleton Area School District Board of Education. He is delighted to have graduated from the AASD and to now be returning in this capacity to serve and better the District’s mission and vision.

Pheng is also a proud parent of an AASD student. He has deep roots in Appleton. Many of his family and friends have graduated from the District and are raising their kids in the District, too. This makes him happy to be on the Board to ensure that all folks are heard and seen in the AASD.

After graduating from AASD, he briefly attended UW-Oshkosh and then attended Mankato State University (now known as MN State University-Mankato), graduating Cum Lade with a degree in Law Enforcement.

Pheng went on to attend UW-Milwaukee to complete his first graduate degree in Masters of Liberal Studies. A few years later, he attended the Alder Graduate School of Education and completed his second Masters in Adlerian Counseling and Psychology.

Pheng has extensive skills and experience in working with families, couples, children, and the wider community on a range of issues that intersect with violence, trauma, and mental health. He’s looking forward to furthering the success of the District by enhancing community participation and creating an increased Social and Emotional Learning environment for all students in the District.

Pheng says that he “looks forward to the ways partnerships between the Board, administration, staff, teachers, paraprofessionals, businesses, parents, families, children, and others in the AASD can be enhanced to ensure all students succeed every day in the classroom.”
